Life without Anorexia

My motto is
'Dont let the sadness of your past & the fear of your future ruin the happiness of your present'

My life at the moment is completely different to how it once was. I spent 5 years sick with anorexia nervosia and depression as well as struggling with self harm and overexercising. I spent 2 years in different treatment centres.
And since 2012 i have been declared healthy from my eating disorder.

I have been blogging for 7 years, and my whole journey is written in my posts. I now represent healthy and happiness. I want to show anyone struggling that it is possible to recover, no matter how hard it may seem.

I now blog about recovery, my life, veganism and positivity!

Ask me questions

Hello :)

Recently I haven't felt so inspired with posts or blogging, or when I have had an idea I haven't had the time to write about it. So I thought it would be best if you ask me questions which I can answer or leave topic suggestions so I can write a few posts:)

I keep meaning to write update posts but i keep second guessing if anyone is even interested.  And I do plan to vlog sometime but I just never get around to doing it, haha.  Im not much of a vlogger.

I do want to keep updating, just don't know what to write about. So leave suggestions below :)

Also if you have any nutrition asks or something I can answer:)

  1. I have a question, I have been attending a weight lifting gym class at school and I'm only able to hang cling with very low weight. I know it's about improving myself but I feel really imbarassed because sometimes people look at you sometimes to cheer you on but I still feel judged. I just don't want to be viewed as a weak person. Any advice?

  2. I have a question- when did you start to love doing exercise? You probably didn't like it when you had an eating disorder because you had to force yourself to do it.. How did you find a kind of exercise that you really enjoy? Do you do any yoga? Do you think yoga can help you while recovering? :)

  3. Did you talk to any therapists while recovering? What do you think was the biggest thing that made you realised that you want to be healthy?

  4. Can you please give any advice when it comes to yoga? I'm currently trying to get my period back and I'm cutting on cardio but yoga feels too.. easy? It's like I'm not doing anything! Do you have a yoga experience that could inspire us?

  6. How long will it take for you to finish studying? In Sweden, how long do people normally study? When you finish studying, will you be already a health coach or does it take longer time? :)

  7. why is it so hard to let go of the idea of being skinny? I'm finding the weight I've gained to extremely uncomfortable, even though I've been this healthy weight for 4 months now. Why do I see normal size me as fat? I don't want to lose weight anymore but I don't know how I'll ever accept this body.

  8. Hi Izzy :) I wondered if perhaps you could give me some advice, I am in my final term of my last year at college while also trying to recover. I cannot however make myself commit 100% to recovery as I feel to do so would interfere with my studying. I am trying to tell myself that health is more important than college but there is a lot of money at stake if I do not make it through this year and this makes me even more reluctant to put myself and my recovery first. I would love to hear your thoughts/advice.x

    1. Hi Izzy - I love your update posts too - they`re always interesting because you are so open and down to earth about things - you show how to live life and be happy! I really like the posts about "normal life" - proves that there is a life after ED and that is something to strive for. Don`t ever think that anyone won`t be interested :)

  10. Hi Izzy! When you changed to a vegan lifestyle did you do it slowly, like removing one animal product from your diet at a time, or did you go cold turkey? Love your blog!!

  11. Could you do a post of a sample menu of vegan food for the day? Not a meal plan or your food diary (although if you want to share you could do that) but so I can get a better idea of what I should be aiming for in a day - getting that balance of the correct food groups? At the moment I just seem to be heaping the vegetables and little else and I know I should be incorporating more of the other foods. But the thing is vegetables fill me up (and I love them - I can just eat them on their own)so I don`t have room for the other things.
I like the changes I have made to my diet and don`t miss meat at all but I`m worried that I`m not doing this right and don`t want to go back to dairy and meat products again. Can you help me create that balance?

    1. Hello, I do personally think that you should maybe go to a dietician but also get blood tests done just in case. Plant based eating is great and has so many health benefits, but it also means you have to eat enough energy and eat varied. On a plant based diet it is important to varied and eat enough beans and lentils etc for protein and vitamins and minerals. It is not enough to just eat vegetables... if you find that you cant eat more than just vegetables, i dont recommend a plant based diet.
Beans and lentils and potatoes and pasta and quinoa are all filling... you dont need to fill your plate with just vegetables. I would suggest getting some food inspiration either from my blog (and my vegan food tag), or on instagram or on tumblr or pinterest. But dont follow any HCLF diets or just fruit diets or raw diets... those arent so balanced and cooked food and oil isnt bad.

  12. How many calories should the average woman be consuming on a plant based diet? Is it the same as the standard recommendation guideline or is it more? Is it possible to eat the full amount of calories eating this food - vegetables and such aren't very calorific so I`m wondering?
Love the way you`ve gone so successfully vegan and that you are so happy with it!

  13. Did you find it difficult giving up certain foods when you became vegan? Like I know you liked your Ben and Jerrys and do you miss/crave your favourite chocolate?
Do you ever get cravings for your old diet?

  14. Hi Izzy - how many more years of study have you got to go before you qualify for what you want to do? Do you think you will start doing part time nutrition related work whilst you are still studying or will you wait until you are fully qualified?

  15. Have you influenced your family`s way of eating since you began eating a plant based diet? My partner was not really agreeable to me giving up animal products at first but he seems to have come round a bit now, and has even said he would like to have the same to eat as me a few times a week! Was your family ok with you going vegan or did they have concerns - ie health wise? If so, did this effect your choices?

  16. What do you think of the theory that taking vitamin D helps prevent you catching a cold/flu and boosts your immune system? I ask because this has recently hit the headlines here and there is talk of the Government being asked to have it added to food. I know vit C is supposed to help immunity and colds and things but never of Vit D. Infact I know very little about Vit D - what is its role in the body and do you think it can stop you catching colds?
