Life without Anorexia

My motto is
'Dont let the sadness of your past & the fear of your future ruin the happiness of your present'

My life at the moment is completely different to how it once was. I spent 5 years sick with anorexia nervosia and depression as well as struggling with self harm and overexercising. I spent 2 years in different treatment centres.
And since 2012 i have been declared healthy from my eating disorder.

I have been blogging for 7 years, and my whole journey is written in my posts. I now represent healthy and happiness. I want to show anyone struggling that it is possible to recover, no matter how hard it may seem.

I now blog about recovery, my life, veganism and positivity!

If you have any questions leave them in the comment section as i am much quicker at answering there, otherwise you can always send an email: lifewithoutanorexia@hotmail.com

Recent eats

Recently there have not been alot of food photos at all... or maybe thats just me, maybe i have done alot of food posts/photos?
But i thought i would do a little collection of some recent eats, as i have been asked about what type of food i eat and such.
I eat so varied everyday and the reason for not so many food photos is that my food isnt photogenic and while i am at home i basically eat the same thing for a whole week, then the next time i go food shopping i buy different items and eat that for the whole week etc But basically its the same staple items but maybe buy wok mix instead of a summer vegetable mix, or i buy salt and pepper rice cakes instead of chia rice cakes or buy a different quorn product. It works for me though :)
But there is also a whole bunch of protein powder like whey and casein as its cheap and delicious and then a whole lot of potatoes and vegetables and peanuts.... nothing fancy at all, but its delicious anyway and that is the important thing.
And of course, i cant forget my daily/weekly dose of chocolate!
(P.s i post the whole bowl or the whole bar of chocolate, doesnt mean i eat it all at once ;))

P.s sweet potatoe and peanut butter... it is such a good combination!!! :)

  1. Looks yum ^_^ I put a whole sweet potato in the microwave (make sure to stab it so it doesn't explode!!), microwave it for 10 mins, then I cut it into halves or fours and put almond butter + cinnamon on top, so goooood :D

  2. I know you do nutrition at college and was just wondering if you have any ideas for the following: for the last few months i've been going to the toilet A LOT and have also been feeling really hungry, all the time. I eat a lot more than I used to and am pretty much a healthy weight (slightly under but i'm not being told to gain any). I just got a phone call from the doctor to tell me that i urgently need to take prescribed iron supplements. I also got diagnosed with early rheumatoid arthritis yesterday, which can affect levels. Anyway, i know you're not a doctor but do you have any idea why I'm experiencing this? my skin has gotten so bad too, and i'm tired a lot.... i don't know if it's just caused by stress because I have exams coming up. I'm 17 and I eat pretty "healthily" i.e. fresh fruits and vegetables every meal, oats, seeds, nuts, beans, fish (no meat), yogurt and a lot of dairy. I also take 7 different vitamins every day. I don't know if i should go to the doctors about it because I've been so frequently lately and don't want to look like a massive hypochondriac :(

    1. Hello, Well I can't tell you exactly what you should do or change but if the doctor told you to take iron tablets then do that as iron deficiency causes tiredness, so that could be a reason. And stress causes extra hunger but also you could be consuming alot of fiber (from the oatmeal, fruit, vegetables and beans) and well that makes you go to the bathroom more frequently, however fiber can be more filling as well. I would suggest eating more, because it's ok if you do gain weight the hunger could be because your body needs more energy and to gain weight ti be at its healthy set point. I would suggest getting blood tests done and seeing if you are lacking any vitamins or minerals but also increasing your calorie intake and seeing if that helps as well as taking iron tablets (the recommended dose). And know that stress can cause alot of weird things to happen in the body so trying to destress is the best so that you won't have any long term problems from the stress :) hope this helps, but don't be afraid to go to the doctor they are there to help :)

  3. How do you make sweet potato chips like on the last photo?

    1. Chop the sweet potatoe thinly and then put on a piece of baking paper (and spread them out so they're not on top or each other) and then I put them in the oven on 225 degrees for 15-20 minutes. (You can add oil and salt as well!)

  4. All looks so good! I'm wondering, what is quark? Is it like a thick type of yoghurt?

    1. It's hard to explain but like a thick yoghurt with alot of protein and most often little sugar (apart from the lactose sugar). Most people like the flavoured ones... and now there are so many different types of quark like yoghurt quark in Sweden and dessert quark hahaha!

  5. Do you take the extra protein powders because of your CF or because you work out? Or is it just a personal diet choice?
There are many protein foods around at the moment - protein drinks, yogurts, soups, pasta - even protein enriched cereal bars and breakfast cereals and I just wondered why people have them?

    1. With whey or casein I use it because it's cheap and a way for me to get calories in... though I often do things like oatmeal with casein instead of buying quark as it's more expensive. And as I strength train it's good to have a high protein intake but I'm not so worried about that and don't think about macros when I eat and I know that I get eniugh protein without protein powder but eat them as it's easy to get calories into me via them.

But all those protein things are just a trend and with the health movement and the protein obsessed society. I love quark which has alot of protein but I'll eat the food I enjoy most and the food I can afford and not so much whether it's fat free, sugar free or high in protein. I think many buy the extra protein things as they want a high protein intake, but the extra protein will just be used as energy or stored as fat anyway so it's good to have a balance and not eat too much protein.
