Life without Anorexia

My motto is
'Dont let the sadness of your past & the fear of your future ruin the happiness of your present'

My life at the moment is completely different to how it once was. I spent 5 years sick with anorexia nervosia and depression as well as struggling with self harm and overexercising. I spent 2 years in different treatment centres.
And since 2012 i have been declared healthy from my eating disorder.

I have been blogging for 7 years, and my whole journey is written in my posts. I now represent healthy and happiness. I want to show anyone struggling that it is possible to recover, no matter how hard it may seem.

I now blog about recovery, my life, veganism and positivity!

If you have any questions leave them in the comment section as i am much quicker at answering there, otherwise you can always send an email: lifewithoutanorexia@hotmail.com

Influencing people positively

You know what i love with my blog, and how i write about what i eat and the foods i enjoy. Is that i get people to also try them!!

It makes me smile when i get people emailing or commenting me and telling me that they have tried B&J because ive said how much i love Ben and Jerrys...Mmmmm... craving some now :)
And even questbars - people tell me ive gotten them addicted... I think i should be sponsored or have a partnership with questnutrition, as im just getting my readers addicted to them? ;) And also chocolate covered nuts!! Ive even gotten some of my readers to try peanut butter and nut butters again :)
Food is nothing to be feared!! Its just delicious :) Dont see calories, see delicious points!!

I must admit, i have good food taste ;) haha. No, not everyone likes the same thing i like... everyone has different tastes. But its fun to hear when you try new foods, face your fear foods :) I feel like a proud mamma bear :)

Food is delicious, food is energy. And we NEED food. And we also NEED treats and treatmeals :) To enjoy a tub of ice cream or some cookies or a whole pizza :) Thats just part of life and enjoying delicious food :)

One thing which i need to get better at... maybe a 'half way through the year resolution?' is to try the foods which YOU suggest. Ive gotten many tips, and i do actually try 50% of what you comment and suggest, but i need to start writing down the tips and food suggestions, otherwise i forget. Its good to try new things, not just eat the same thing again and again!

Like overnight oatmeal... i really need to try that, as well as chia pudding....Any other food suggestions you can give me.... any type of food. A weird food combo  you like?
All types of food - apart from red meat that is ;)

  1. Hi Izzy! You have also inspired me so much in my recovery from anorexia.
Here is something I think is really delicious:
    1dl quark, 1dl yogurt, 1dl oats
Half an apple chopped in to cubes
Lemon zest grated (as much as you like)
Mix all ingredients and let stand at least one hour or overnight in the fridge. Top with cereal or something else crunchy, like nuts.
    Tastes so fresh

    1. I know its tough, but you really have to fight the voice in your head. know that its OK to eat ice cream, there is nothing wrong with that? Why should you feel guilty? What is wrong with eating an ice cream... really ask yourself that. Because you know that really there is nothing wrong, you wont become fat from it, you wont gain wieght from it.... you didnt steal it so why should you feel guilty about it?
Food is energy, and you need energy. So fight the thoughts, know that doing these things which scare you is what will make you better. You wont recover over night, but keep fighting your fears. You WILL become stronger!!

  6. Reading your blog was the reason I got to know quest bars ... since quite some time I've always wanted to test them but you can't buy them here in Germany... :( I'm thinking about buying some on the internet but they aren't really cheap ... :/
Thanks to you I also tried different nut butters and I can't do anything else than loving them ♥ ;D
    have a great weekend! :)

    1. Yeah they're not so cheap, so not even I can eat them so often. I only buy them on special times... but it is cheaper to buy a 12 pack then just 1 or 2 bars. Can you order from Iherb to Germany? Iherb have a really good price!
hahah, im glad to hear that! Hope you have a good weekend as well :)

    1. That sounds delicious :) I love banana with almond butter.. though i cant eat banana, and when i do i have to face the consequences. Which is never nice. But hey, i still like banana and nut butter :)

  8. I must say that you've been a huge positive influence in my recovery, and I look forward to your posts everyday. I used to go on Instagram a lot and there is a big ED recovery community on there, but it's actually really triggering, and makes you feel like you need to be sicker, or you're not thin enough. But since moving away from IG, and reading blogs and writing my own blog, I feel like my recovery is moving forward. And I did have some dark chocolate covered almonds the other day, and they were so delicious! I can't believe I've deprived myself of chocolate for so long! It seems to silly now!
As to new foods you can try... well I love smoothies so much, but you can't have banana and that's my favourite part about them.... you should try melting a bit of dark chocolate, mixing it in with your yoghurt/quark and leaving it overnight. It goes into a great texture! Or make some ratatouille with salmon and like cous cous or something (my favourite meal!). I was meant to email you - I want to send you a package from Australia with a few little things, maybe we could organise this?

    1. I find that alot of the ED recovery IG accounts arent so much recovery... they just compare themselves to each other. Show pictures of their thigh gaps and collar bones and their portions are tiny... though there are some recovery IGs who are very inspirational as well :) Who are really fighting. I love to see how they progress :)
That all sounds delicious, ill have to try some of that!

Yeah email me, and we can talk there ;)

  9. You are my inspiration! I always, always, ALWAYS go down the icecream aisle at the store and think about how delicious all of the different flavors of Ben and Jerry's must taste (i've never actually had it), but I am always too scared to buy any ice cream - even light ice cream :(

    1. Thank you :)
One day, you are going to walk down that aisle and pick an ice cream tub/flavour which you have really wanted to try, and you'll be able to eat a serving or two of it at home, and enjoy it. Not feel guilty, not have to compensate. Just enjoy the ice cream and eb proud of how far you have come!
You need to really face your fears, ice cream is yummy, nothing to be feared. You dont have to eat the whole tub... begin with taking a spoonful sometime. Tasting it... facing the anxiety and knowing it will be ok :)

  10. Have you tried nut butter with pears? Since it's so sticky, you can make a tower if you cut the pear vertically into slices and use nut butter as glue between the slices (:

Do you eat smoothies? I remember you telling you like to eat and not drink your food, but if you put less liquid in your smoothie, you can eat it with a spoon! My favourite recipe is this:

    - one half / one whole avocado
    - 100g frozen blueberries
    - sweetener (stevia, honey, agave syrup...)
    - 1 banana (you could maybe replace this with some other fruit with a soft taste, like a pear or melon, or some more sweetener!)
    - if i want a creamier taste, i put in 1-2dl of quark as well (:

Someone mentioned ed recovery IG accounts and I actually posted a picture of my recovery progress as my last pic of the #100daysofhappiness challenge. Could you maybe take a look at my pics and tell me your honest opinion that do I still look too skinny or are my pics "too healthy"/ortorexic?

    http://instagram.com/ppiila

The second to last picture is the first one (and by far the only one) where I have mentioned I've had these problems.

Thank you a lot Izzie! You can answer here on your blog (:

    2. Hello, im sorry i seem to have missed your comment... not all comments show up in my 'comments section', so unless i check the posts i miss them sometimes. That smoothie sounds delicious, ive never tried putting avocado in a smoothie, but i might try that :)

And with the picture, unfortunatly i cant tell you whether you are too healthy or orthorexcic.... that is a mindset, not a lifestyle. Its only YOU who knows whther you are sick or not... whether you exercise because of compensation and guilt and if the food choices you make are out of fear or because you like the food.
I cant tell you whether you have a good weight or not... as i am not a doctor. But the most important is that you feel happy, and healthy and have a healthy weight :)
